Diwali celebrations

This week, the children have been learning about the festival of Diwali.

They have enjoyed dancing to music with scarves and streamers, making diva lamps out of clay and exploring rangoli patterns. Dormice explored a sensory activity of coloured rice in the shape of a rangoli pattern, with small scoops and pots to use to help develop their fine motor skills.

We have also been exploring the different colours seen in Diwali and firework celebrations. Squirrels and Hedgehogs took part in an experiment to see what would happen if they mixed vinegar with bicarbonate of soda. First, they smelled the vinegar "it smells pongy" "it smells like fish and chips" and then Jayne demonstrated what would happen if they used the pipettes to mix the vinegar with the bicarb. "It's like a volcano!" "Wow, it's really bubbly". The children were keen to get involved and enjoyed seeing the different colours bubble over like a volcano.

Dormice group also enjoyed exploring this activity!
